There are really just a few steps to getting started. The only requirement for a new swimmer is that they can swim unassisted from one end of the pool to the other (25 meters).
New swimmers are placed in their appropriate division once they have improved enough to swim two lengths and know more skills.
Our coaches take care of that by providing learning through fun activities.
Come down and try our practices before signing up! With our trial registration you can try 5 practices in a 2 week timeframe for only a $25 insurance and processing fee. What a great deal! You must fill out the trial registration form and bring the $25 to practice with you before getting into the water. If you decide to join, the fee will be deducted from the seasonal registration fee. The Trial Registration form can be found on the Stingray’s Forms page:
The Summer Season
Training intensifies as the year moves on with swimming sessions and some dry land training sessions during the summer session. Our coaches keep things interesting with skill instruction and drills, stroke training, diving and flip turns.
Swim meets are scheduled throughout the summer. A meet can be a day visit to Castlegar, Colville, Grand Forks or Nelson or an overnight camping or hotel stay in Kimberley. This gives the whole family a chance to meet and know other swimmers and their families. Meets are optional and most families like to participate because they are a lot of fun.
There are events for all ages and swim levels. Novices swim 25 meter races (1 pool length) which decides where they fit in subsequent swim meets. There are awards for everyone who participates in a novice event and it is the most cheered for race at a meet.
We encourage parents to volunteer at swim meets. Running a swim meet takes many volunteers and parents from all clubs are asked to assist. There are a variety of jobs available and many people to help new families learn the ropes. The benefits of helping out include watching races from the best seats, getting pampered with food and refreshments and meeting parents from other clubs.
Pack a picnic, drinks, snacks, sunscreen, towels, extra goggles and don’t forget your bathing suit and a pen and highlighter for recording times and keeping track of the events your son or daughter are competing in.
